Class of 2013 AP Exam Results Show Improvement

According to an annual College Board report released today, more Georgia graduates are succeeding on Advanced Placement (AP) tests than took the exams in 2003. Forty percent of 2013 public high school graduates took an AP exam, and 21.3% of these graduates scored a 3 or higher. In 2013, economically disadvantaged students represented 31.7% of Georgia’s AP test takers and 22.9% of those scoring 3 or higher. This increase shows significant progress, but 60% of Georgia public school students are economically disadvantaged. As a result, Georgia still has room to increase low-income student participation and success on AP exams.

Deal Announces Third Round Winners for Innovation in Teaching

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced seven winners in Round Three of the Innovation in Teaching Competition, a recognition and reward opportunity for teachers who demonstrate innovative teaching strategies for the Georgia standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. The competition is available through Georgia’s Innovation Fund, a competitive grant program.

GOSA Releases How-to Guide for Summer Literacy Programs

The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) today released Mission Possible: Summer Learning for Struggling Readers, a how-to guide for school districts to equip children to read on grade level by the end of third grade by addressing summer reading loss.

Deal Announces Second Round of Innovation in Teaching Competition Winners

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced two winners in round two of the Innovation in Teaching Competition, a recognition and reward opportunity for teachers who demonstrate innovative teaching strategies. Deal also called for educational leaders around the state to submit nominations of innovative and effective teachers for round three of the competition.
