Rural AP STEM Initiative

On April 1, 2017, Governor Nathan Deal announced two new grant awards for the Georgia Rural AP STEM Initiative to support the successful implementation of AP programs in the areas of Computer Science and Statistics.  This is the second round of funding for this grant, and in total, seven districts have been awarded funds to support STEM-integrated curriculum for Georgia students.

The grant award winners, along with their selected AP STEM pathways, are listed below.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and College Board and is designed to create a vertical pathway to student success in AP STEM courses in high-need, rural areas throughout Georgia.  Funding from this initiative will provide awarded districts with teacher professional learning and mentorship in one of three AP STEM courses:  AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, or AP Statistics.

Each grantee will receive up to $30,000 to support the successful implementation of, including creating and strengthening, rigorous STEM courses in middle and high school in collaboration with the College Board.  Grant funds can also be utilized to recruit students into these courses and to support ongoing professional learning for Pre-AP and AP teachers.
